Matalan

I am hoping to get some work experience h the design department at Matalan this year. Here is some of the information I have found out about the company:

Started in 1985 by John Hargreaves, it was originally a market stall.The first store was opened in 1985 in Preston; within 10 years there were 50 countrywide. This has now grown to 227 stores across the United Kingdom a Headquarters and a depot. There are even 25 franchised stores overseas. Products are sourced from 800 factories in 24 countries.

Based in Knowsley, UK it has stayed close to its roots and prides itself on its family reputation. From the beginning Matalan's mission was to "provide outstanding value for modern families". They have received a Gold Award from Mumsnet for being 'Family Friendly' this is not just something applied to their customers but their staff and colleagues too. They complete Your Voice surveys to check on their happiness and help make improvements, have a Matalan Education /ME scheme to help growth and 'Wellbeing at Matalan' to take care of their "family".

It is a company that takes its ethical values and position in the community very importantly. They have an 'Ethical Sourcing Policy' to keep trading ethically which involves among other things regular checks by independent auditing companies. They are also a part of 'Modern Day Slavery & Human Trafficking" legislation and have zero-tolerance stance on these issues. They are also partnered with companies such as Alder Hey Hospital, NSPCC and HOPE Bangladesh.

Xmas Pop Up Shop

This week we had a session to nail down the specifics for our pop up shop and to delegate tasks. We have decided Wednesday 6th of December is the best option as the last week of term may be too chaotic, students may have already returned home and it also gives us more opportunity to sell any left over stock afterwards. We have decided that we will sell perspex xmas decorations and cake (to lure people in)..
