Interview Feedback
Today we received general feedback about the mock interviews we took part in. I have made some notes about parts I felt were relevant to me and what I need to consider for next time.
1. Tell me abit about yourself.
Here I introduced myself as a mature student studying at Textiles. I didn't really say much more than this tbh.. I didn't introduce any of my personal intersts as this is usually a question asked later on and I didn't want to use up my answers all in one go.. however the opportunity never really came up and I came away feeling like I never portrayed myself as a person. Also, never took this opportunity to state that I already work for Asda! It should be clear on my cv and it obviously came up later but might of been clearer if I'd started with this - especially as it something I want to promote!
2. How are you finding your course?
I pretty much just said "yeah it's good" but then felt like I had to expand which I did, but in the wrong way. I started saying "it's been hard.." and lost my train of thought..
This is should of been used as an opportunity to highlight the skills I have picked up, the technology and materials.
3. How did you find out about the opportunity? I said my manager made me aware of it.. I was aiming to highlight my links to the company and specific name drop. However I think it maybe came across as abit accidental - like I wasn't really looking myself.
4. What do you know about the setup?
I think I handled this one pretty well as I am already an Asda Colleague and I have visited Asda House and the design team. This just enforced for me the importance of work experience to gain knowledge especially if it can be gained from the target company.
5. What can you bring to the role?
Again, being an Asda Colleague already really works in my favour I managed to highlight that I already know the customer and the product, the company and their image.
6. How will you benefit from the experience?
I honestly can't remember being asked this question! This is hard to balance though between sounding needy and greedy and that you will benefit them. Maybe focus on their USP or what it is about the company that appeals to you.
7. How will we benefit from having you?
I really struggled with this one because I felt like ot was the same question as no5. Which I had already answered. . And so ended up repeating myself! 🙈 really I should of taken this chance to sell myself as a person and soft skills such as organisation, sociable and friendly..
8. What are your career plans?
I started by saying ghat I didn't know what the future held but my plan has been to work my way thru college, university and then get this job. Which I think is a good idea it also saves being too bolshy like in 5yrs I want to be a millionaire which is not genuine to me at all. As the "Tick Test" confirmed I am not inspired by influence at all.
9. Weaknesses..
I said that I struggle when not fully in control if I am part of a chain of work and I have to rely on someone else doing something before I can do my job - I did finish off by saying that I was working on being more patient.
10. Any questions?
I asked what it was like working in Asda House.. probably qualifies as a weak question and should really have asked something more specific to the role such as "how many products would you work on at any one time?"
